K.N.D9 can be easily classified as the new age N.W.A. The rap crew of three members namely Esoteric Dragon, Grxmmlee and PHXRXOH consists of fresh talent, with a fusion of fiery sounds. K.N.D9 dropped an album titled Extension Euphoria 2 in February of this year. The album came just a few weeks after the release of their single, Elements which is also one of the tracks on the 13-track album.
808 PLUG caught up with K.N.D9 member PHXRXOH to talk all things Extension Euphoria 2 and get to know more about the rap crew.
For those who are just getting to know you, who is PHXRXOH?
PHXRXOH is a young kid from Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg. Repping my hood extension 9. I’m 23 years of age and music is my passion. I started rapping back in 2015 and grew as time went by. I’d also say that I’m a humble and chilled individual who works pretty well with others.
How did you and your fellow crew members meet?
Well me and the gang are from the same area. We basically lived in the same hood and used to listen to the same music. Later in 2019, we decided to start our crew K.N.D9. We started working together in 2019 but before that, we did our own things as individuals.
What is the story behind your crew’s name, K.N.D9?
Well this is kind of silly because our crew’s name comes from the cartoon, Kids Nextdoor. The story behind the name K.N.D9 is that we live close to each other, basically nextdoor each other so we called ourselves Kids Nextdoor. We are all from extension 9, which is why we added the number 9 to our name.
What can you tell us about your album, Extension Euphoria 2?
Extension Euphoria 2 is us showing our rap skills and unique sound. Our first project, Extension Euphoria was a beat tape so we decided to add vocals onto this one and spit bars.
How would you describe your crew’s sound?
Our music sound is a mixture of everything. I can’t really say. Mainly Hip-Hop and trap.
What is your favourite song from the album?
Take It One Day At A Time is my favourite because it is motivational and has positive vibes. That song uplifts my spirit and puts me in a better mood when I’m stressed or overthinking.
What are some of your all-time favourite Hip-Hop albums?
My all-time favourites are Chase by Aaron May, I don’t like Shi and I Don’t Go outside by Earl Sweatshirt. There are many more but these are the ones that I jam regularly.
Who are your biggest music influences?
I’d say many South African artists. The likes of Stogie T, Riky Rick, Patrickxxlee, A-Reece and Nasty C.
Which artists would you like to work with in the future?
Locally, Patrickxxlee, A-Reece and Nasty C. Those artists are at the top of my list.
What’s next for K.N.D9?
New Projects are on the way. I’m also working on a solo EP titled Pieces Of A Kid. I don’t have a release date just as yet but all updates will be on my socials. We are each working on solo projects which is something awesome to look forward to. It’s too early to give more details but we will share more information on our social media platforms at a later stage.
