The Side Step store at Clearwater Mall became the meeting point for music, fashion and culture as the retailer hosted an exclusive media experience celebrating its New Era campaign alongside hip-hop star Blxckie.
Hosted by South African hip-hop pioneer Slikour, the intimate gathering brought together media and tastemakers for an afternoon that reflected the campaign’s vision of placing youth culture at the centre of fashion. Guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments, explored an on-site tattoo station and were invited to select an item of their choice in-store, creating an experience that felt authentic to the communities Side Step continues to champion.

One of the day’s standout moments came when Blxckie treated attendees to an exclusive preview of a single unreleased track from his forthcoming album. Featuring fellow artist KindlyNxsh, the teaser offered a glimpse into his next musical chapter while building anticipation for the full project.
The celebration also recognised one of the rapper’s latest career milestones, with Blxckie receiving a Gold certification plaque for 4LUV 2, further cementing his place as one of South Africa’s most influential voices in hip-hop.

The collaboration forms part of Side Step’s New Era campaign, an initiative designed to position the retailer at the forefront of fashion, music and next-generation street culture. More than a retail campaign, New Era reflects a broader movement that brings together style, music and community through immersive cultural experiences.
For Blxckie, partnering with Side Step was an easy decision.
“The thing that made me gravitate towards it was what they’re doing with bringing new brands into the store,” he said. “Besides that, it’s about being the face of something so cool and so cultural. Side Step has always been part of the culture. A lot of young people come here because of the fashion, the brands they stock and the fact that they make looking good feel accessible without breaking the bank.”

By combining an exclusive music preview, a celebration of Blxckie’s success and an experience rooted in community, Side Step demonstrated that New Era is more than a campaign. It is a reflection of where South African youth culture is headed, with music, fashion and self-expression continuing to shape the next generation.
