After nearly a decade away from releasing a full body of work, South African singer and songwriter Thabsie has officially returned. The acclaimed artist has surprised fans with the release of her new EP, While You Wait, marking her first project since her 2017 debut album, Songs About You.
The independent release follows the arrival of her comeback single, “Again”, which dropped in November 2025 and offered the first glimpse into this new chapter. Released through her own label, Song Bird Entertainment, While You Wait serves as a bridge to her long-awaited sophomore album while showcasing the artist she has grown into over the past nine years.
Across the R&B project, Thabsie explores the emotional complexities of love, heartbreak and the difficult reality of staying in a relationship that no longer serves you. The EP captures the push and pull between recognising an unhealthy relationship and the emotional attachment that makes walking away far more complicated.
Musically, While You Wait blends contemporary R&B with nostalgic influences. Listeners will hear interpolations of Harrison Crump’s early 2000s house anthem “Once Again”, alongside nods to beloved South African classics including Mina Nawe’s “Where I Should Be” and DJ Tira’s “Won’t Let Go”. Opening the project is “Good Time”, which features award-winning rapper Emtee and sets the tone for the EP’s blend of soulful storytelling and modern production.
For Thabsie, this release is more than just a return to music. It represents a deeply personal journey of embracing creative independence and telling stories on her own terms. Through While You Wait, she continues to centre themes of love, vulnerability and the lived experiences of women, delivering music that feels both intimate and authentic.
