For our readers who are just getting to know you, who is Spunky Galaxy?
I am Lebogang Mashigo, better known as Spunky Galaxy. I am an artist who was born and raised in East Bank, Alexandra.
What can you tell us about your album, WNDR LND?
WNDR LND is my first official album. I took time to understand and examine myself, as well as to tell my story without any fear of judgement on this project. My only hope is that people who listen to the album are able to relate to it.
What inspired the album and its title?
The title of the album is based on my thoughts and how I always wonder what would happen if I did certain things differently.
Which song from the album speaks to you the most?
Definitely Zone. I opened the realest part of myself on that track.
The album’s intro, Note To Self alludes to the importance of keeping a positive mindset through positive affirmations. How do you keep a positive mindset and how important is it for your artistry?
I won’t lie, in the life and times that we’re living in – negative things that happen can make you overlook the positive things. As cliche as it may sound, what keeps me positive is music. Not just mine alone but also music from artists that I resonate with. As an artist, a positive mindset is very important – especially with all the challenges that you may face along the way.
When and how did your journey with music start?
I started rapping around 2009. I then started spitting on the mic and dropping music in 2011.
Who are some of your biggest music influences?
My biggest music influences are Kanye West and Drake.
What are some of your all-time favourite Hip-Hop albums?
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. That album is laced with gold. I also like Take Care by Drake – as well as The Carter III by Lil Wayne.
Which artists would you like to work with in the future?
Locally, I would like to work with Riky Rick and internationally – Kanye West.
What’s next for Spunky Galaxy?
Well it’s hard for me to say what’s next because I am the future. But, keep an eye and an ear open by following me on all social media platforms @SpunkyGalaxy.
